Bahir Dar, September 8 (WIC) - The 9th regular conference
of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) was concluded on Wednesday by electing new leaders and issuing an 11-point joint statement.
The conference elected Demeke Mekonnen and Gedu Andargachew as Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Movement, respectively.
The conference also elected 65 Central Committee members as well as approved report of the Audit Commission.
Addisu Legesse, who served as Chairman of the Movement for the past 13 years, on the occasion expressed his happiness to handover the chairmanship title to the new successors.
The culture of succession should be developed, he added.
The newly elected Chairman of the Movement, Demeke Mekonnen, on his part pledged to discharge his responsibility effectively and alleviate any leadership gap.
In an 11-point statement they issued at the end of the meeting, participants of the conference on their part pledged to offer their unreserved support to the newly elected leaderships.
They further vowed to pay prime attention for the realization of the five-year economic plan, development of culture, expansion of infrastructures, scaling up of best practices, strengthening of small and micro enterprises, improvement of agricultural productivity as well as to encourage investment and saving culture, among others.
The participants finally called on members and supporters of ANDM residing here and abroad to rally alongside the Movement for the successfully realization of the five-year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).
